Environmental Portrait: Take One

A partially edited version of the environmental portrait I'm currently working on. The portfolio I am assembling is focused on themes from movies and television and a common theme in many films is the dubious, suited individual waiting in the rain for a steel briefcase of cash or something similar. I drew visual inspiration from some of the more influential gangster and crime films. Overall I'm pretty happy so far, lots of post production work to do still but the end result won't look very different.

Icon Set for OS X

I've had a few people asking me about the icon set I created for my personal use, it's a utilitarian set of icons that (when complete) will fully replace all the icons in the OS X environment. I find them a lot easier to look at than the default icons for most apps, the only problem is that since I designed these for use on my computer, they only really work well on a light coloured background. Sorry about that, people with pictures of their dogs or whatever as your desktop, this might not look great in your dock. They do however look great in default Finder windows.

So if you're interested in using these icons yourself I have uploaded the basic set for you to download. Included are replacement icons for all default apps, folders and devices for Leopard and Snow Leopard, plus a few extras (including Adobe CS4). I'm also working on creating icons for virtually all file types and documents, I might upload these another time since I'm not done with those yet.

To install these I recommend going to Panic and installing CandyBar, which makes it easy to replace most of the system icons.

Richmond Fair

Did some shooting at the annual country fair held in Richmond. Lots of livestock and produce competitions along with a midway and rides.

It was my first time using the Nikon 14mm f/2.8 and it produced some obvious falloff in shots of the clear sky. My fault I suppose, because I had the aperture pretty wide to freeze the rides as they were moving and didn't notice on the LCD. Not a total failure though because I'm a sucker for exaggerated falloff and vignetting. Still a fun shoot and I got some nice images.

Ottawa Architecture

Did some location scouting and came back with a bunch of Google Earth placemarks and a few quick shots of some nice spots I might come back to. I also planned to do a little street photography, unfortunately on a Sunday afternoon Ottawa is pretty deserted, so I just snapped some buildings instead.
